AREA BOY SCOUTS FILL SOUP KITCHEN’S CUPBOARDS
WITH THEIR “SCOUTING FOR FOOD” DRIVE

POSTED NOVEMBER 23, 2016, MOORESVILLE NC – Over the course of 3 hours on Saturday, November 19, twelve local boy scout packs delivered 9,449 pounds of food to Mooresville Soup Kitchen. And during the same three-hour period, a small army of 128 volunteers weighed, sorted, box, and stored the goods for future Soup Kitchen use. It was all part of the annual Scouting for Food Drive, and it’s one of the most important days of the year at Mooresville Soup Kitchen.

“We are so grateful to the boy scouts for their help fighting hunger in our area,” said Mooresville Soup Kitchen Board Chair Lisa Qualls. “We love seeing the boys -- and their adult Scoutmasters! -- compete to bring in the most food. And what great volunteers we had this year. So many young people and families joined us for the action-packed day of organizing all those donations. No matter how much was collected by each group, their generous spirits are a blessing to this community!”

Here are the results of each group’s collection effort:

Block Party.jpg

Thanks to the support of Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church and Randy Marion, Mooresville Soup Kitchen held its second annual Block Party on Saturday, October 8, 2016. Thanks to Hurricane Matthew's rain and wind, we took the party indoors again this year, with a Bouncy House Obstacle Course, games, free photo booth, live DJ, cake walks, and lots of hot dogs and delicious barbecue from Holy Smokes BBQ. This event gives Mooresville Soup Kitchen a chance to thank our community for its tremendous year-round support. We are so grateful to our sponsors, our volunteers, and the many friends and neighbors without whom the Mooresville Soup Kitchen couldn't operate. Thank you, one and all!
