What Does A Neighbor Do?

As the Volunteer Coordinator for a Faith based non-profit, I am always asking myself, “Are we doing this to your Will, Lord?” Each week we are blessed to have two Second Harvest deliveries that can bring up to 3,500 lbs. of good food to feed our community. This helps our those in need here in our community in tremendous ways. Here at Mooresville Soup Kitchen, we are beyond blessed and thankful to have donation reinforcements to help out where we may be lacking.

I then ask myself, "What does a neighbor do, how can I contribute my time to something greater then me, and share my God given skills?" Our volunteers thrive on sharing their own experience of LIIFE ( Living In a Flawed Environment) and again I witness my own spirit being lifted to pray out loud, “Dear God, forgive us of our self-centered attitudes and show us how we can encourage each other. Amen.”

How can you contribute to our mission and what neighbors do? We have three areas always needing a great team of people to help us with:

1. Second Harvest Team: Monday and Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Organizing like items, categorize them properly, and box up items for our existing food markets and guests.

2. Pantry Team: Wednesdays from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. This is a brand new venture MSK has been doing and we have been pleased with the new crowd of people we are now helping. Pantry Team Helpers will act as a personal shopper for our guests to ensure they get their items to their cars.

3. Front Desk Help: Thursday and Friday. This person or people will answer the phone and help sign in all volunteers for those days.
