Dear Friends of MSK,

When I visited Mooresville Soup Kitchen for the first time it was immediately clear to me the mission of providing food security and a hand up to our neighbors was at the heart of this great organization. When you enter the walls of MSK, you feel 30 years of history, open hearts and minds, and the presence of God’s love. It is a truly remarkable place where lives are impacted daily. From the guests who come for a hot meal, a shower, or grocery items to the volunteers who come to give of themselves; we are all forever changed by this experience. Our guests have enjoyed access to hot meals, perishable grocery items, pantry items, showers, phones, computers, and community resources in 2017, while every person who comes to MSK benefits from teaching and learning from each other.

Daily, we are helping mothers and fathers find jobs to support their families, veterans gain access to VA resources, and families find safe and affordable housing. Our neighbors need support with going back to school, navigating access to community resources, and managing health conditions. Our community enjoys daily hot meals, weekly pantry, daily grocery line, as well as access to 4 markets located at churches throughout our community where frozen meals and grocery items are provided weekly. These markets occur at different times than our primary site and allow access for those who live further from our building and/or work during normal business hours. At Mooresville Soup Kitchen, people gather around food, then we join hands to begin the journey to stability.

Equally as inspiring as the long history of MSK, is the bright future that lies ahead. We are an organization in the midst of evolution and progress. We are talking with those who we serve, our volunteers, and our community leaders to ask how best to help our neighbors who are struggling in our community. We are doing more listening than talking in an effort to improve and expand our services based on what our neighbors need.

I am beyond thankful to be part of this inspiring group of caring individuals and can’t wait to see how lives can be changed, starting with gathering around food and ending with more stable families in our community.
